About CarrotSticks
Our goal at CarrotSticks is to provide parents and educators with tools to make learning a more exciting and interactive experience for children. Research shows that peers have a tremendous influence on a child's attitudes towards learning. We want to harness this influence in a positive way by using technology to make the learning process a social one. CarrotSticks is based in San Francisco, CA.
Founding Team
Dan Siroker
Dan co-founded CarrotSticks after serving as the Deputy New Media Director for the presidential transition, where he was responsible for strategic planning of the administration's use of the internet and technology. Prior to that, Dan was the Director of Analytics for the Obama presidential campaign and worked as a Product Manager for Google Chrome and AdWords. Dan graduated with Honors from Stanford University with a B.S. in Computer Science.
Brian Sze
Brian was the Reporting and Analytics Coordinator for the Obama campaign during the general election, managing the financial planning process for online fundraising of over $300m. Prior to the campaign, Brian worked at RBC Capital Markets within the Investment Banking Internet group. During his stay, he completed over 15 private placements and acquisitions totaling over $1 billion in value. Brian graduated from Stanford University with a degree in Economics.
Pete Koomen
Prior to co-founding CarrotSticks, Pete worked for Google where he was Product Manager for Google App Engine. While there, Pete helped launch and grow the App Engine platform to more than 150,000 developers in its first year. Before that, Pete earned an M.S. in Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and dual B.S.'s in Mathematics and Computer Science at Case Western Reserve University.

Laura Bofferding
Laura is currently a Ph.D. student at the Stanford School of Education where she studies the presentation of and methods for teaching subtraction to elementary students. Laura has also worked as an educational consultant and content designer for the Waterford institute, and served as an elementary school teacher for four years. Prior to this, Laura earned a B.S. in Elementary Eduction at the University of Wisconsin.
Regina Hickman
Prior to joining CarrotSticks, Regina has experience as a mainstream classroom and mathematics resource teacher ranging from Kindergarten through Fourth Grade . While teaching, Regina helped to develop Individualized Education Plans, modify curriculum, create goals and participated in school based study teams to target and improve student performance. She is dual credentialed in Elementary and Exceptional Student Education from The Florida and California Departments of Education.
Scott Thomas
Scott was the Design Director for Obama for America, where he led design and branding efforts for the New Media group during the presidential campaign. Prior to Obama for America, Scott co-founded The Post Family, a design collective. Scott's clients have included Obama for America, Nike, Miller Brewing Company, Catepillar, Tropicana, HP and Unison.
Joyce Wong
Joyce graduated from the University of California Irvine where she earned a double B.A. in English and Psychology, in addition to a double minor in Education and Linguistics. She holds a Master's degree in Education from UC Berkeley. Joyce is a teacher at Mission San Jose High School in Fremont where she was named 2003 NUMMI New Promising Teacher of the Year for Fremont.
